We always think we have time.

Time to say something kind. Time to take that trip. Time to enjoy the meal slowly instead of rushing through it. And so we save things- the best things- for later. The choicest bite. The crispest spoonful. The bright new shirt still hanging unworn. The words we meant to say, still waiting in our mouths.

I took a photo today- not of a beautifully plated bowl of Khao Soi, but of the bowl after it was gone. Nothing left but a glistening bone and a few golden streaks of curry at the bottom. And somehow, it felt more honest than any food photo I’ve ever taken.

Because that’s what life looks like in retrospect. The moments we thought we’d savor later- they happened. They passed while we were waiting for “the right time.” The soup cooled, the noodles softened, the best bite may have been the one we never let ourselves have.

We save the best for last, thinking we’re being wise. But sometimes, the last comes quietly, without fanfare, and all we’re left with is the aftertaste- rich, haunting, and full of things we meant to enjoy more fully.

Maybe the point isn’t to save the best.
Maybe it’s to realize that any bite- every bite- could be the best one, if we’re paying attention.

The moment you were waiting for?
It already happened.
You were in it- knee-deep in flavor, mess, and meaning.
Not saving the best- living it, without even realizing.

And that’s the quiet truth life often whispers when we’re finally paying attention:
The best parts aren’t waiting somewhere down the road.
They’re here- in the unplanned laughter, the half-finished stories, the last drops of soup clinging to the bowl.

So maybe next time, DON’T WAIT.
Wear the good shirt.
Open the good wine.
Take the best bite- NOW.
Because THIS is the moment.
And it doesn’t ask to be saved- only savored.
