The door creaks, the air shifts, and suddenly you’re somewhere entirely new. I’ve started calling it “coffee shop hopping,” but it feels more like urban wandering with intention. No set plan. Just a curiosity led by the scent of espresso and the hum of distant conversation.
Every shop has its own rhythm. One pulses with indie records and animated chatter; another barely whispers, with sleepy jazz and sunlight pooling through high windows. Some places invite you to linger – chipped mugs, hand-written menus, plants leaning toward the glass. Others ask only for a moment: a quick espresso, a nod to the barista, and back into the world.
It’s not about the coffee, really- though I’ll never say no to a well-pulled shot. It’s about pausing long enough to notice. To overhear a soft laugh. To write something you didn’t know you needed to say. To sit with yourself in public without feeling like you need to be elsewhere.
Lately, I’ve found that these spaces- scattered across the city like quiet bookmarks- are where I feel most present. Most awake. A little lost, maybe, but in a way that feels like it matters.
So, I keep wandering.
